President Biden leaving the race, the summer Covid surge and the CrowdStrike outage have caused a few last minute cancelations. 7/23 at 2pm is the perfect time to try or revisit the Coppola Smoothing Treatment for 30% off. The treatment can reduce frizz, elongate curls, lessen styling time, strengthen and coat the hair with Keratin. Some clients have experienced never before seen length retention and manageability.

The NYC heat has Wash & Go season in full effect. It may be tempting to leave your hair to air dry but for some this can cause major issues. When the hair is wet the hydrogen bonds are broken temporarily. Allowing the hair to stay damp for extended periods will cause damage to the cuticle from excessive swelling. This can put pressure on the cortex causing breakage (hygral fatigue). Signs of hygral fatigue are gummy, frizzy, dry, brittle and tangled strands.
The scalp can also be impacted by keeping it damp too long. Over half of my clients last week had to get scalp treatments due to flakes and/or itchiness. Because we need to use lots of water to get our wash & go's to look just right our scalps may stay wet longer than ideal creating a dark moist environment that bacteria loves. In addition, the braid, weave and crochet styles we gravitate to for summer vacation can also cause scalp irritation, build-up and mildew. Any scalp condition can lead to scarring which can turn into hair loss.
If it takes longer than a few hours for your scalp and hair to dry completely you should invest in a hood dryer. This is a very versatile tool that can be used to dry your scalp before diffusing your wash and go. It can also be used to set rods, rollers and twists for extra hold and as a heat source when conditioning. Most importantly we can use a hood dryer to make sure our braid styles and the cornrows under our weaves & wigs get thoroughly dry. Keeping heavy product off the scalp and getting it completely dry after shampooing, sweating or swimming will prevent yeast overgrowth and hair loss.
Use 85% water and 15% product when doing wash & go's. Keep product off the scalp to prevent flaking, itching, clogged the follicles and to speed drying.
No matter the style, be sure to get the scalp completely dry using a hood dryer. For wash and go's hair can be 80% dry then either diffuse or air dry the rest of the way.
If you have sew-in weave or crochet style be sure to get your foundation completely dry under a hood dryer. Prior to shampooing use Witch Hazel with Tea Tree Oil, Sea Breeze or your choice of scalp antiseptic to spray into the scalp and foundation braids. While drying squeeze the thickest area of the cornrow base in the back of your head checking for moisture until fully dry.
Do not put conditioner, heavy creams, gels or oils on the scalp.
